Youth Protest Against Fuel Scarcity Block Lagos-Benin Expressway
On Thursday, young protesters in Lagos blocked the Lagos Benin Expressway at Oluku Junction to demonstrate their anguish experience related to fuel scarcity and sudden hike in price.
Travellers along with businesses were all affect by this reaction by the youth. Majority who traveled along the road were helplessly many vehicle could not move for hours.
Drivers, passengers and traders around this area all lamented as they expressed dissatisfaction with the situation which hindered their daily activities.
One of the traders who spoke to us, Grace Emmanuel, said she could lose all her goods if the incident continues, as her goods tend to spoil if not delivered on time.
Grace Emmanuel was taking her products to Ekiadolor, when she got stuck in the demonstration.
She said: “It is unfortunate that this protesting is taking place because it will add to the existing problem. If I don’t get my goods to where I will sell them, some might get spoilt and I will incur losses, which I don’t want at this time.
“They are protesting for the right reasons. The fuel situation is hitting hard on everybody but blocking the roads will lead to losses to individuals who are going to do business,” she added.
One of the drivers, with the name Osahon, who was also affected by this incident urge the government to intervene in the fuel crisis.
He further explained the effect of the protests, which got most people stranded and helpless.
