Wonder as Texas Woman Wakes Up With Russian Accent After Surgery
A Texas woman woke up after a herniated disc surgery to find that her southern drawl had been replaced with a thick Russian accent.
Abby Fender, 39, found her after the procedure that her vocal cords were paralysed and she no longer spoke as she had for the vast majority of her life.
Doctors, initially perplexed but eventually diagnosed Ms Fender with a rare condition known as Foreign Accent Syndrome.
Fender, a professional singer, said, “I woke up from my surgery and immediately knew something was very wrong with my voice, as I couldn’t speak with any volume.
“Soon, I began to feel the pitch of my voice go very, very high and we called it the ‘Russian Minnie Mouse voice’ where I sounded like a cartoon character all the time.”
