In a much-anticipated encounter between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Wild Dogs of Guinea Bissau in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, the Eagles have unfortunately failed to secure a much-needed win.
The match, which was held at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja, witnessed a thrilling 1-0 victory in favor of Guinea Bissau on Friday.
The defeat has not only come as a disappointment to the Nigerian fans but has also resulted in the Eagles losing their top spot in Group A to Guinea Bissau.
Prior to the game, Nigeria was leading the group with six points, while Guinea Bissau had four points.
The only goal of the match was scored by Guinea Bissau’s Mama Balde, who found the back of the net in the 29th minute of the game.
This victory has taken Guinea Bissau’s point tally to seven, making them the current group leaders and brightening their chances of qualifying for the tournament in Ivory Coast next year.
Guinea Bissau’s impressive performances in the tournament so far include a 5-1 victory against Sao Tome and Principe, followed by a 2-2 draw with Sierra Leone.
In contrast, the Eagles had a victorious start to their campaign, defeating Sierra Leone 2-1 in their first match and thrashing Sao Tome and Principe 10-0 in their second match.
