Why There is Delay in Appointing New Alaafin, Soun Ogbomoso — Oyo Gov

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has clarified that the reason for the delay in appointing new traditional rulers for the Aalafin of Oyo and Soun of Ogbomosoland is to ensure that due process is followed in their selection.
The Governor made this statement during the swearing-in ceremony of the new Chief Judge of the state, Justice Iyabo Yerima, in Ibadan on Tuesday.
Makinde stressed the need to avoid past mistakes and follow the institutional framework in selecting the new monarchs to ensure that the process is efficient and legally binding.
His stance is aimed at preventing legal challenges to the emergence of the new traditional rulers, as happened in the past, and promoting the rule of law.
Makinde referred to a previous situation where a king was removed by the judiciary in the state after being on the throne for over 22 years.
He stated that he is committed to avoiding a repeat of such an incident and will instead delay the appointment process to ensure that due process is followed.
Makinde emphasised the need for strong institutions and the importance of having experienced and capable people with strong convictions to build them.
He noted that this is what Nigeria needs at this time.
