Why I Dislike God Despite Being Pastor’s Son — Spyro
Nigerian singer, Spyro has shared a candid account of his evolving relationship with religion during an interview on the Tea with Tay Podcast.
In the latest episode, hosted by Emmanuel Taymesan and well monitored by Excel Magazine International, Spyro delved into his past, recounting how his father’s stringent values and daily religious routines created intense pressure during his formative years.
Reflecting on his upbringing in the Mushin area of Lagos, Spyro disclosed that, despite being a pastor’s son, he initially harbored resentment towards God due to his father’s strict upbringing.
Acknowledging the strictness of pastors with their children, Spyro confessed to disliking religion because of the pressure imposed by his father, a pastor.
“My father was quite strict, and he’s a pastor, so you know the way pastors are with their kids. They’re really strict because they have this ideology that their children are the ones that…” Spyro began, with Taymesan humorously interjecting, “Na we dey spoil pass,” to which Spyro nodded in agreement.
Despite growing up in a religious environment that involved waking up early for fellowship and being constantly surrounded by the Bible, Spyro noted that this routine fostered a negative perception of religion.
He expressed how he didn’t truly know God despite being in close proximity to the Bible every day, and his father’s approach made him “hate God, the personality of God.”
However, Spyro highlighted a positive turn in his journey, emphasizing that he has since developed his own authentic connection with religion, distinct from his father’s ministry.
The artist emphasized finding joy in religion on his own terms, reflecting personal growth and a newfound appreciation for spirituality.
