WhatsApp has introduced a novel enhancement to its video calling capabilities, allowing users to seamlessly share their screens during conversations.

The unveiling of this feature, known as Screen Share, transpired through an announcement by Meta’s Chief Executive Officer, Mark Zuckerberg, on Tuesday.

The rationale behind this innovation, learnt by Excel Magazine International is to provide users with the ability to facilitate a diverse range of activities while engaged in a video call.

Meta elaborates that Screen Share empowers individuals to share documents pertinent to professional engagements, peruse personal photo galleries, and engage in a host of other interactions during the course of a video call.

Mark Zuckerberg expounded on this development, emphasizing, “We are adding the ability to share your screen during a video call on WhatsApp.”

To elucidate the functionality of Screen Share, Meta expounded, “Whether sharing documents for work, browsing photos with family, planning a vacation or shopping online with friends, or just helping grandparents with tech support — screen sharing lets you share a live view of your screen during the call.

You can initiate screen sharing by clicking on the ‘Share’ Icon and choosing between sharing a specific application or sharing the entire screen.”

Activation of the screen sharing feature can be effortlessly initiated by selecting the ‘Share’ icon, followed by the option to either share a designated application or extend the sharing scope to encompass the entire screen.

In addition to this enhancement, the company has incorporated a refinement in the form of landscape mode video calls, departing from the conventional portrait mode that had hitherto defined video communication on the platform.

It is noteworthy that the screen sharing attribute, which had hitherto been a prominent facet of video conferencing applications such as Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams, has now found a home within the realm of WhatsApp, enhancing its utility and broadening its repertoire of features.
