What We Know So Far About Attacks On South-Eastern Nigeria Police Stations and Facilities

 

In this piece, we take you through some updates on happenings in the South Eastern Nigeria.
I would be recalled that for over Seven months, the region has been faced with attacks on Police stations and police facilities.

According to the International Centre for Investigative Reporting, atleast Twenty-one police stations have been attacked in the region since October 2020, Fifteen officers have also been identified to have died in the crisis.

This is also coming as the South Eastern governors came together to set-up Ebube Agu, a security outfit aimed at ending insecurity in the region.

Imo state has been worst hit by the crisis with seven Police stations attacked between October 2020 and April 2021.
The Nigeria Police also has expressed readiness the tackle the situation even as officers fail to wear uniforms to work places again while they cannot be found on the streets for road blocks or security services as the case usually was before the commencement of the attacks.
The Nigerian government blamed the Indigenous People of Biafra and the Eastern Security Network for the attacks, although the body has not owned up to such development, denying that it is responsible for attacks on Police stations and facilities in the region.
The Imo state governor, Hope Uzodinma has also set-up a security unit with the code name “Operation Search and Flush” with the mandate to fight criminality in the state, although attacks have continued even after the formation of the outfit.

Residents of the region have also expressed fear on the effect of the crisis on their daily activities and their safety appealing to the government of various states to rise up to the occasion and protect them.
