US Woman Sets Record for World’s Longest Female Mullet
An American woman has recently achieved a remarkable feat in the world of hair fashion, securing a coveted spot in the Guinness World Records for the longest mullet ever recorded on a woman.
Tami Manis from Tennessee hasn’t cut the back of her hair since 1990. In the 33 years since, it’s grown to 172.72 cm (5ft 8in).
Manis, now 58 years old, embarked on this extraordinary journey into hair history during the 1980s, inspired by a music video from Til Tuesday titled “Voices Carry.”
She was captivated by the singer’s distinctive rattail hairstyle and resolved to sport a similar look. Unfortunately, a barber convinced her to part with her rattail in 1989, a decision she quickly regretted.
Determined to regain her signature style, she officially restarted her hair-growing journey on February 9, 1990, marking it as her hair’s “official” birthday.
Reflecting on her achievement, Manis expressed her gratitude, saying, “I’ve been blessed that my hair grows and now it’s the world’s longest mullet and I’m very happy with it.” She added that most people are taken aback by the length when she turns around.
To manage her stunning mane, Manis often braids her hair, relying on a leave-in conditioner to make the task more manageable.
Her dedication to her distinctive look paid off in 2022 when she participated in the “Femullet” division of the 2022 US Mullet Championships, securing an impressive second-place finish.
The US Mullet Championships, the world’s largest competition of its kind, consistently attracts over 1,000 applicants each year, further solidifying Manis’s status as a mullet icon.
Excel Magazine International observes her record-breaking achievement is a testament to her unwavering commitment to a unique and enduring hairstyle that has earned her a place in the annals of hair history.
