US-China Relationship Most Consequential — Blinken

In a significant diplomatic move, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has earlier today noted the importance of the US-China relationship, dubbing it “the most consequential relationship” globally.

Speaking at a meeting with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, Blinken stressed the necessity of face-to-face diplomacy to navigate differences and prevent misunderstandings or miscalculations.

“There is no substitute, in our judgment, for face-to-face diplomacy in order to try to move forward, but also to make sure that we’re as clear as possible about the areas where we have differences,” Blinken said.

He further stated the shared responsibility between the two nations to manage their relationship effectively, not only for their citizens but for global stability.

In response, Wang Yi acknowledged the gradual stabilization of the relationship but cautioned against “negative factors” that continue to test it.

He outlined China’s “red lines” concerning sovereignty, security, and development, cautioning the US to refrain from crossing them.
