The leadership of the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), Federal College of Education (Tech), Bichi, Kano Chapter, on Tuesday described the current leadership of the Federal institution in Bichi, under Professor Bashir Mohammed Fagge, as clueless, and visionless.
Briefing newsmen at a press conference, organized by the union at the NUJ Press Centre, on the deplorable state of the Federal institution, Chairman of the union, Comrade Mustapha A. Dawaki, categorically stated that the union cannot fold its arms to allow the legacy of over 30 years of academic excellence to continue to be truncated by the current leadership of the institution.
The institution is currently being truncated, due to the clueless and useless leadership of Professor Bashir Mohammed Fagge. It is in a bid to salvage the precarious situation, facing our dear College that we,, the Academic Staff of the Federal College of Education, Technical, Bichi, under the auspices of the College of Education Academic Staff Union (FCE Chapter) convene this press conference to let the world know the plight of our great College to serve as a veritable platform of rallying the support of relevant stakeholders.”
“I want to state categorically, without any fear of contradiction that we have never had it, so bad in the over 30 years of our history, as a College. Today, at FCE, Bichi, teaching and learning is taking place under the mist unbearable condition, academic infrastructure are dilapidated, due the lack of maintenance culture, laboratories, workshop and studio are not functioning.”
The College, since its inception in 1987 has successfully been carrying out this mandate, churning out thousands of well trained teachers, who are contributing meaningfully to the Nigerian education sub-sector, at all levels.”
It included its grievances, to include the non-issuance of Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria TRCN certificate, since 2015, as well as pronounced insecurity and lawlessness on campus, including unkempt college environment.
Others include non-payment of 10-month Peculiar Academic Allowance and other entitlements accruing to lecturers.
Also, it decried the non-remittance of the N25 million outstanding FCE (Technical) Staff multi-purpose Cooperative Socient Deductions.
