The United Nations has registered an official complaint with the United States in response to allegations that the U.S. government has spied on Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and other senior U.N. officials.

According to U.N. spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric, the organization has expressed its concern to the host country regarding recent reports of surveillance and interference with the communications of high-ranking U.N. officials by the U.S. government.

The reports emerged as part of a series of highly classified U.S. documents that were leaked and widely circulated on social media platforms.

These documents contained sensitive information on Russia’s war in Ukraine and other U.S. allies such as Israel, Turkey, and South Korea.

Dujarric has confirmed that the U.N. sent a letter to the U.S. Mission to the United Nations on Monday evening, but as of Tuesday afternoon, no reply has been received.
