Tragedy Strikes Nollywood Again as Murphy Afolabi Reportedly Died

Tragedy has struck the Nigerian entertainment industry once again, as Yoruba actor and filmmaker, Murphy Afolabi, has reportedly passed away.
Afolabi’s untimely demise comes just 24 hours after the passing of Nollywood star, Saint Obi.
According to reports, Afolabi fell in his bathroom at his residence in Ikorodu, Lagos, on the morning of May 14, 2023.
The news of his death was confirmed by Seun Olaiya, the president of the Yoruba movies directors guild, and Abdullahi Abdulrasaq, the Managing Director of Corporate Pictures Nigeria Limited.
The entertainment industry is reeling from the loss of Afolabi, who was a well-known and respected figure in the Yoruba movie scene.
Showbiz personality and convener of the Best of Nollywood Awards, Seun Oloketuyi, expressed his condolences, saying, “It is true. He passed away after taking a fall in his bathroom at his house in Ikorodu this morning.”
Many of Afolabi’s colleagues and fans have taken to social media to pay their respects and offer their condolences to his family.
Tunde Ola-Yusuf, a fellow filmmaker, shared a picture of the late actor on Facebook and wrote, “Rest in peace. May God give the family and close associates the fortitude to bear the loss. Good night, Murphy Afolabi.”
Fidelis Duker, another filmmaker, expressed his disbelief, saying, “What is really happening? I am just watching him in a movie now.”
Afolabi, who was born on May 5, 1974, made his debut in the movie industry in 2001 and went on to appear in over 60 films. Some of his notable works include ‘Ifa Olokun’, ‘Omowunmi’, ‘Jimi Bendel’, ‘Wasila Coded’, ‘Olokiki Oru’, and ‘Idera’. He will be greatly missed by his fans, colleagues, and the entertainment industry as a whole.
