Supreme Court to Decide Kano Governor’s Fate on Thursday
The Supreme Court has scheduled Thursday for the hearing of the appeal in the Kano State governorship dispute.
Governor Kabir Abba Yusuf of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) contests the Appeal Court’s decision that affirmed the tribunal’s verdict, ousting him and declaring Dr Nasiru Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the March 11 governorship poll winner.
Barrister Bashir Tudun Waziri, counsel for Governor Yusuf, confirmed receipt of the hearing notice.
The Appeal Court’s three-member panel previously dismissed the appeal, citing Governor Yusuf’s non-membership in NNPP during the election.
However, a conflicting order in a Certified True Copy of the judgement emerged, with Justice Moore Adumein favoring the 1st respondent in the lead judgement.
Both APC and NNPP interpret the judgement as affirming their election victory.
NNPP has filed an appeal before the Supreme Court challenging the Court of Appeal’s decision, listing 10 grounds for the challenge, excluding the conclusion and orders at page 67 of the Certified True Copy, which are deemed favorable to the appellant.
