Sunday Igboho Arrested In Benin Republic, Awaiting Repatriation

Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, widely known as Sunday Igboho, has been arrested in Cotonou, the neighbouring Benin Republic capital on Monday night.

Excel Magazine International learnt that Igboho was arrested at an airport in Cotonou on Monday night, while on his way to Germany.

According to a source familiar with the Igboho case, the agitator, who had earlier been declared wanted by the Department of State Security, DSS, after a raid on his house in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, for alleged stockpiling of arms, was arrested by the security forces in Benin Republic.

Excel Breaking News gathered that Igboho will be repatriated to Nigeria on Tuesday (today) from Benin Republic.

A source which pleased anonymity said, “He was arrested in Cotonou while trying to travel out on Monday night. His destination was Germany. The security forces in Benin Republic should repatriate him to Nigeria on Tuesday.”

Recall that the DSS had raided Igboho’s Ibadan residence on July 1, 2021, and in the process arrested about 12 of his aides, while two of them were killed in the ensuing shoot out.

Recall also that the Federal Government of Nigeria had placed the activist on the stop-list, alerting the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, and the Nigeria Customs Service,NCS, on red alert to stop Igboho from leaving the country.
