Succor As Bordo Women Donate Car To Aid Child Birth In Community

In a bid to ease transportation means for expectant women especially in the face of uphill health challenges and failures, women of Bordo Women in Jahun Local Government Area of Jigawa State, have donated a vehicle to the cause of pregnant women in the village.

 

EXCEL BREAKING NEWS gathered that the women of Bordo village made the contribution to get a car that will aid pregnant women get to the closest hospital during labor.

The closest hospital it was gathered is about 29 kilometers from Bordo. This journey is further made difficult for pregnant women due to the bad roads leading to the hospital.

Speaking to journalists, Malama Halima Adamu, the pioneer of the project, explained that every mother, from the village donated N1000 monthly until they got the required amount to purchase the vehicle. In her interview with BBC News(pigin), she said, “we began contributing N1000 monthly from every mother in the village and realized N1 million to get the car”.

She further explained that the husband of every expectant mother pays N2000 if the family needs the car. From the N2000, they spend N1500 on petrol to transport the woman in labor and N500 is reserved for vehicle maintenance if there is any need for it.

The women who championed the initiative
The Chief of Bordo Village, Alhassan Haruna in his remark said that some women in labour still give birth while on their way to the hospital in Jahun town due to the very bad state of the road.

He also asked the government to intervene in the awful state of the road.
Dr. Kabir Ibrahim Aliyu who serves as the Secretary of Primary Healthcare Board of Jigawa State, asserted that there are vehicles to convey pregnant women to hospitals , he however admitted that almost all are in bad conditions.

Stakeholders who pleaded anonymity also issued a wake-up call for present administration to see strategies to improve the lives and health of the people as the ugly situation in Bordo Village, Jigawa State is a public ridicule especially at the international community.

There has been clamor for more investments in the health sector by the Nigerian government as challenges posed by the sector continues to grow day by day.
