Nollywood sensation Chidi Mokeme is causing a stir with his recent portrayal of the iconic character “Scar” in the highly-regarded six-part series, Shanty Town.
Fans are raving about the actor’s commitment to the role, with Mokeme revealing the extreme measures he took to fully embody the character.
The actor, who has long been admired for his talents, shared that he went to great lengths to prepare for the role, including shaving his head and going bald, abstaining from bathing for several days, and even smoking three packs of cigarettes a day to perfect Scar’s distinct voice.
He said, “Some of the body modifications I did to enter into the character of Scar was to shave off my hair and go bald. I also did not take my bath for a few days before going on set so that when they say I should do something dirty, I can do it freely because I know I am not clean.
“Sometimes I don’t brush my teeth and when I open my mouth to talk to people, they wonder what kind of a person I am.
“I don’t smoke but I had to smoke about three packets per day to make my voice sound the way it did in the series.”
But the dedication didn’t stop there, as Mokeme also revealed that he is still finding it difficult to separate himself from the character. “The character and I have become one, and it will take some time before we can let each other go,” he said.
This powerful performance comes after a brief hiatus for the actor, who was diagnosed with Bell’s Palsy. But fans can rest assured that Mokeme is back and better than ever, delivering a performance that is sure to be remembered for years to come. So, the fans of Chidi Mokeme are eagerly waiting for his next projects.
