Kaya is the granddaughter of Mrs. Nnenna Joy Ugorji, an executive at Excel Global Media Group / Excel Magazine DMV. Her parents, Mr. Chidiadi O. Ugorji and Mrs. Yoland Ugorji, expressed their pride and elation as they joined in celebrating their daughter’s achievements.
“We are incredibly proud of Kaya’s accomplishments,” expressed Mr. Chidiadi O. Ugorji while speaking with Excel Magazine International. “Her dedication and passion for the arts have always been evident, and it’s rewarding to see her hard work pay off.”
Mrs. Yoland Ugorji echoed her husband’s sentiments, adding, “Kaya has always been a creative spirit. Watching her grow and find her path has been a joy. This graduation is just the beginning for her.”
Among the attendees were Kaya’s sister, Oluchi Ugorji; her aunts, Dr. Kirl John, who traveled from Grenada, Dr. Yvette Noel-Schure, and her cousin, Mr. Michael Schure, along with his family. Indeed, the gathering highlighted the close-knit support system pivotal to Kaya’s journey.
Kaya’s grandmother, Mrs. Nnenna Joy Ugorji, could hardly contain her excitement. “Kaya has a bright future ahead of her. She’s not just talented but also determined. We couldn’t be prouder of her accomplishments,” she remarked.
Kaya has already made remarkable strides in the fashion industry. In 2020, she was recognized by Gucci and the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) as one of the first Gucci Changemakers, an accolade projecting her innovative approach to art and design. Her talents extend beyond fabric styling to encompass photography, creative direction, and fashion history.
Reflecting on her journey, Kaya shared, “Changing my major from fashion design to styling was a pivotal moment for me. It opened up new avenues in fashion history and photography that I hadn’t fully explored before.
My goal is to bridge the worlds of fashion and entertainment, and this degree is a step toward that dream.”
