Police Witness Narrate How Vandi killed Raheem
A police officer named Matthew Ahmen, a colleague of Drambi Vandi, who is accused of killing female lawyer Bolanle Raheem, testified before the Lagos State High Court on Monday that they were performing a stop and search when the event took place.
He claimed that while he was in the middle and Inspector Dimini was at the front, their team’s leader, Vandi, was in the back.
Ahmen, the first witness for the prosecution, claimed that Dimini flagged down an automobile as it approached but it did not stop, and that he did the same when the car approached where he was standing.
When he turned around to see what was happening, he noticed that a windscreen was falling. He continued, “The next thing I heard was a gunshot.
“The next thing I saw again was a dark woman who jumped down from the vehicle and I heard her saying that ‘oga you have killed my sister.’ The woman held him and before I and Dimini could get to them, they had entered the car, locked it, and left.”
Vandi had previously appeared before Justice Ibironke Harrison to be charged with murder on one count.
The trial of the suspended assistant superintendent of police commenced on Monday after he pleaded not guilty to the murder of Raheem.
Vandi entered a not guilty plea to the murder accusation following the reading of the charge sheet to him.
Excelbreakingnews reports that Raheem was shot dead by Vandi in the Ajah area of Lagos on Christmas Day, while coming from an occasion with her family.
Many people and organizations in the nation expressed outrage over Raheem’s death, denouncing what they termed as extrajudicial killing and citing it as one of the causes of the 2020 nationwide #EndSARS protest.
After the Police Service Commission ordered his suspension, on December 30, 2022, Vandi was taken into custody and brought before Chief Magistrate C.A. Adedayo.
