The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Paul Odama, has paraded a medical doctor, Ayodele Joseph, on Friday evening, over allegations of sedation and rape of a nurse during surgery in his hospital in Ilorin.
Joseph, the Chief Medical Director of Ayodele Hospital, Sawmill Area, Ilorin, was among the 13 suspects paraded before newsmen at the Police Headquarters.
According to Odama, the victim, a nurse, reported to the police that during her surgery on May 5th, 2023, at Ayodele Hospital, the Chief Medical Director sedated her, causing her to become unconscious.
Unbeknownst to the doctor, the patient recorded the surgery on her phone.
Upon waking up, the victim discovered that Joseph had allegedly raped her while she was sedated, which was corroborated by medical examinations and the recorded video of the incident.
The police commissioner added that Joseph had previously been arraigned for other offenses, including culpable homicide and criminal conspiracy, related to the death of a patient in his hospital under questionable circumstances.
He warned the public to be cautious when patronising Joseph’s hospital, describing him as one of the most dangerous medical practitioners in the state.
The leadership of the state branch of the Nigeria Medical Association was contacted on the case, and the hospital premises were cordoned off.
Joseph denied the allegation of rape, claiming that the nurse was his girlfriend and that she set him up to extort money from him.
He stated that the nurse, who was his employee and girlfriend for eight years, had already collected a substantial amount of money from him and was still demanding more.
The police commissioner confirmed that the investigation was ongoing, and Joseph would be charged to court for rape after the conclusion of the investigation.
