Peter Obi Did Not Win in 19 States as Claimed — Report

By Boniface Ihiasota, USA

A fact-checking organization, Dubawa, has refuted the claim that the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, won in 19 states during the February 25 election.

Dubawa based its findings on data from the Independent National Electoral Commission’s result-viewing platform.

In a report released on March 7, 2023, Dubawa stated that only results from 92.87% of the total 176,846 polling units had been uploaded on the IREV portal.

This meant that the results from 12,613 polling units nationwide were yet to be uploaded on the platform.

Therefore, it would be misleading to dismiss the result announced by INEC and claim that Mr. Obi won 19 states, including the FCT.

Dubawa also discredited a report uploaded by a Facebook user, Mazi Chiemena Samuel, which claimed that Labour Party won in about 18 states, including the FCT.

Dubawa clarified that the report was not from the IREV portal, but from a poll conducted by Nextier on January 27, 2023.
