LGA Funds: You Lack Transparency, Pategi Fires Kwara Govt

There is currently crisis in Kwara state. Kwara is in the North-Central region of Nigeria.

This came after a former Commisisoner of Special Duties in the state, Aisha Pategi, who resigned from Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s cabinet, challenged the state government to publish the local governments’ financial accounts starting from 2019.

Ms Pategi, whose controversial resignation letter was tendered three weeks ago, had, in July, accused the state’s ministry of finance of diverting N300 million local government funds while she headed the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

Afterwards, she was moved to the ministry of special duties during a cabinet reshuffle carried out in the same month.

This redeployment was not well received by the now former commissioner.

However, she made no public statements until Monday.

In the early hours of Monday, Ms Pategi, in a tweet, dared the state government to publish the local governments’ accounts.

In her Twitter post, she wrote “Absolutely not true…. publish all LGA accounts from may 2019 to date ” ending the tweet with #freeKwaraLGAMoney.

This is in apparent to claims of the government that local government councils are autonomous.

The government had stated that there is no interference with the accounts of the Local governments in Kwara state.
