More than one million deaths have been recorded as a result of the corona virus, with many regions having new cases of infection.
Death in the US, Brazil and India make up nearly half the total according to Johns Hopkins University.
Antonio Guterres, the UN Secretary-General has called the number of deaths a “mind numbering” figure. He stated, “yet we must never lose sight of each and every individual life.
They were fathers and mothers, wives and husbands, brothers and sisters, friends and colleagues. The pain has been multiplied by the savageness of this disease”.
The corona virus pandemic has since its outbreak about 10 months ago spread to 188 countries with more than 32 million confirmed cases.
There have been efforts by the World Health Organization(WHO) to develop a vaccine.
The United States has the world’s highest death toll with about 205,000 fatalities, followed by Brazil on 141,700 and India with about 95,500 deaths.
