Organ Trafficking: Ekweremadu, Wife, Others Found Guilty
Former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, and his wife Beatrice, have been found guilty of organ trafficking in the United Kingdom.
Following a six-week trial at the Old Bailey, Justice Jeremy Johnson found the duo guilty of criminally conspiring to bring a 21-year-old Lagos street trader to London to exploit his kidney.
The verdict was announced on Thursday.
Along with their daughter Sonia and medical doctor Dr. Obinna Obeta, they were convicted of facilitating the travel of a young man to Britain for the purpose of exploiting him.
Johnson, the presiding judge, will sentence the convicted parties at a later date.
