At least one person had been confirmed dead as pipeline exploded in Diamond Estate / Idowu Egba, in Egbe Idimu Local Government Council Development Area of Lagos State on Thursday.
The oil pipeline exploded when suspected vandals had the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC)’s pipeline ruptured in a bid to steal fuel from the pipeline.
Excel Magazine gathered that the ruptured pipeline was reportedly spilling fuel uninhibitedly leading to the fire outbreak that had four locations in the community gutted by fire.
The fire outbreak occasioned by the pipeline explosion was confirmed by the Public Relations Officer of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Nosa Okunbur who said that one person was burnt to death in the fire incident.
‘Upon arrival of LASEMA Response Team as well as other responders at the incident scene, it was observed that pipelines located within Diamond Estate / Idowu Egba was ruptured and spilling petrol which resulted in a fire outbreak at four points.
‘One adult male was burnt to death.Rescue and recovery operations are ongoing’, Okunbur said.
