Strike Suspension: The Full Details Of NLC, TUC Agreement With FG

 

 

In the early hours of Monday, September 28, the Nigerian Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress announced the suspension of its scheduled strike action.
The suspension was hinged on decisions reached with the Federal government after an extensive meeting.

The NLC and the TUC agreed to set-up a technical committee comprising of Ministries, Departments, Agencies, NLC and TUC which will work effective two weeks to examine the justification of the new policy in view of the need for validation basis for the new cost reflective tariff as a result of the conflicting information from the fields which appeared different from the data presented to justify the new policy by the NERC.

The meeting also resolved that the 40% stake of government in the DISCO and the state of workers to be reflected in the composition of DISCO boards.

An all-inclusive and independent review of the power sector operations as provided in the privatization Memorandum of Understanding to be undertaken before the end of 2020 with Labour unions represented.
The parties agreed on local refining to reduce the pressure on importation of petroleum products.

There was also a commitment to expedite the rehabilitation of the nation’s four refineries located in Warri, Kaduna and Port Harcourt with a commitment to complete Port Harcourt refinery by December 2021.

The federal government also promised to ensure delivery of 1million CNG/LG AutoGAs conversion kits, storage skids and dispensing units under the Nigerian Gas expansion programme by 2021 to enable delivery of cheaper transportation and power fuel.

A specific amount will be unveiled by the Federal Government of Nigeria in next two weeks for Nigerian workers while there will subsequent provision for 240,000 under the auspices of the NLC and TUC for participation in agricultural ventures through the CBN and Ministry of Agriculture.

The Federal government will also make available to the organized Labour 133 CNG/LPG driven mass transit buses immediately and provide to the major cities across the country before December 2021.
