Nigeria’s COAS Death: What We Know So Far

 

Yesterday, 21st of May, 2021, Nigeria lost its Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Ibrahim Attahiru, who died in an ill-fated Aircraft accident.

After the incident, there has been reactions by Nigerians who have mourned the Late Chief of Service Staff who was just four months in the office before his death.

This is what we know so far;

The Late Chief of Army Staff died with Ten other persons on board, according to the Accident Investigation Bureau. This number includes six senior officers and Four flight officers.

Nigeria’s president, Muhammadu Buhari also expressed deep sadness over the incident as he promised that the deaths of the officers will not be in vain.

Former Nigeria Vice-President and presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar said his death is a huge loss for the nation, describing it as a dark day for the nation.

While the US mission Nigeria on Twitter said: “Attahiru death is a big loss to Nigeria.we offer our deepest sympathy to the family of General Attahiru and to the families of all those that died”

‘The incident occurred as the plane was landing at Kaduna airport ‘due to inclement weather’, the army says

According to statement from the army, the burial proceedings of the late Attahiru and 6 other senior officers that lost their lives inside the air crash in Kaduna will happen on Saturday, 22 May.

After that burial, the main burial will take place at the National Military Cemetery, Abuja on same day.
