Killings: Nigerians Want Special Anti-Robbery Squad Scrapped

Nigerians at large have slammed the men of the of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS).

Different respondents who spoke to our correspondent noted that the squad has gone against its creation and code of conduct.

This lash came after the death of a 20 year old yahoo boy in Osogbo, the state capital of Osun state after the men of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) gave the Young boy a chase which led to his untimely death.

A Nigerian who resides in Ile Ife, Osun state and  is also a commercial driver known as Agbara expressed his anger and dissatisfaction towards SARS

The driver narrated his ordeal to our correspondent especially on the Ife-Ibadan expressway as he tagged the Nigerian Police Force personnels as extortionist.

In his words, he said, “The men of the Nigerian Police Force has become a bone in the throat. They extort us on the road, they collect the little money we make from us. If they request bribe from us on the road and we deny them they would flare up”

“The Police Force is no longer doing their job. They have lost their priority and their value” he added

Nigerians has also taken to social media to express their greviance

According to a tweet , @PhilipObin, “The call for the scrapping of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) unit of the Nigeria Police Force, has again been re-echoed as reports on social media blamed its operatives for causing the death of 3 people in a road accident, after they were being chased in Osogbo”

Another tweet @demenathan, “Police brutality and injustice, like the one experienced in Nigeria, ignited the Arab uprising. What happened in Osogbo today have the potential of doing same in Nigeria. The revolution will start without any form of announcement, preparedness and organization.

#EndSARS

Another twitter handle, who also took to his handle @Publiceyeng, ”
#EndSARS is trending again after two young men in Osogbo were killed in a car accident while fleeing from suspected SARS operatives.

How many more deaths will we mourn before the government listens to our pleas and disbands this sect of the Nigerian police? #EnoughisEnough

It should be recalled that in the last 2 years different states has recorded the highest level of brutality of the Police Force on the Citizens and how the Police extorts road users and also leaving them to the cold hands of death.

It should be known that Nigerians some years ago took their social media handle and clamoured for a revolution #EndSars.

The Men of Police Force has moved from safeguarding the lives of citizen to endangering their lives.

An attempt to speak with the Commissioner of Police, Osun State, Undie Andie proved abortive as our reporter tried calling him but no response and no calls were returned as at the time of filing this report.

Speaking with the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Mr Ambar Azukour, he said ” for now no claim can be made, we will have to get to the root of the matter”

“As at now, I can’t make any assertion because i haven’t received anything as regards that” he added
