Students of different universities in Nigeria have shared their thoughts to schools reponing as another academic session kick starts for some varsities.

It would be recalled that the Federal Government gave a directive that all schools be on lockdown in March 23rd, 2020 after the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak.

After 7 months of closure which also led to protests by the students, the Federal Government declared opening religious centres among others.

Mixed reactions have however trailed the development.

According to the Nigerian University Commission (NUC), the direction to open schools came after an assessment procedure.

The Secretary to the Federal Government, Boss Mustapha made a declaration during the Presidential Task Force Briefing at Abuja that there can now be a safe reopening of school.

Varsities like Lagos State University, Babcock University amongst others have resumed while other varsities are already following suite.

Speaking with a Nursing student of the Adeleke University, Ede, Omorinde Precious 500L, she said, she is glad that her school is resuming after 7 months of lockdown.

In her words, ” I’m really grateful to God to sparing my life and my friends though it has been tough, i’m glad school is resuming soon online classes hasn’t been easy for me although it was good that the pandemic didn’t affect our academic activities but the online classes has been very tedious”

“The pandemic break has been a blessing in disguise for me because due to my course of study i hardly spend 2 weeks with them but due to the break, i’m able to spend quality time with my siblings and folks”

“I was able to get through my perfume business and it’s on the rise now, i made new friends and all”

“I am just happy because i really missed my friends, lectures and all other activities on campus” she added

Speaking with another student of Babcock University, Oluwatobi, English Department, 300L, he said ” Though the lockdown came at the time nobody envisaged but i was able to develop myself during this period”

“A lot of ideas came during this season because i was able to sit down and think. It has been a benefit to me”

“I’m quite happy that we have finally resumed because i thought that’s not going to happen” he added

Speaking with another student of the Lagos State University, (LASU), who pleaded anonymity because he doesn’t want his name to be in print, he said, “this is the happiest thing that has ever happened to me. I have always been praying every morning and i’m glad it did”

“I was able to get myself a skill but there’s nothing like been in class and talking to your friends” she added

As at now various institutions have declared their intents of reopening while some federal schools are still uncertain on their resumption as they haven’t got a full directive from the Federal Government and the Nigerian University Commission (NUC)
