By Boniface Ihiasota, USA
The Federal Government is collaborating with the Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST) to introduce home delivery of passports, but only for those who choose this option.
Interior Minister, Rauf Aregbesola made this announcement during the inauguration of the Nigeria Immigration Service Passport Front Desk Office in Auchi, Edo State, on Saturday.
The minister mentioned in a tweet that negotiations with NIPOST to utilize its speed mail service for delivering passports worldwide are in the final stages.
This passport office is the sixth to be opened in 2023 and aims to make passport application processing more accessible to the public.
Minister Aregbesola expressed the expectation that the waiting period for obtaining a passport would not exceed three days as more front offices are established.
Furthermore, the government’s long-term plan involves partnering with private operators who will provide lounges for a fee, while the Nigeria Immigration Service will supply the necessary equipment and personnel.
