Nigeria More Than A Country – United States
The United States of America has praised the Nigerian Community stating that the country is more than just a coming together of states.
This was said during the 243rd anniversary celebration of the United States of America.
Ambassador W. Stuart Symington, while speaking said
“Nigeria is more than a country. Nigeria is an idea. The idea of Nigeria is that you can take 500 tribes, 500 languages, put them in a place and by the grace of God, get them to think of themselves as one nation bound in freedom, peace and unity. This is no easy task”.
The Ambassador also noted that the idea of Nigeria is bigger than Nigerians but a world movement
“The idea that is Nigeria, is bigger than Nigerians. This idea is about bringing the world together, so that we truly are not just one nation under God and indivisible, but one family under God and indivisible. This is the greatest challenge the world faces today and I am convinced we’ve got the answer.” he said.
He also thanked the Senate President for celebrating the United States of America and supporting the Country
“Thank you for coming to celebrate this idea that we all have the right to live and to unite in freedom and prosperity and justice for all. We were delighted to have the Nigerian Senate President, Senator Ahmad Lawan and the dignitaries join us in the celebration”.
The Nigerian Senate President, Senator Ahmad Lawan also thanked the United States of America for supporting the cause of the Nigerian society while also restating Nigeria’s commitment to growth of world peace ideals and development.
