Naira Abuse: Court Convicts Bobrisky
The Federal High Court in Lagos had delivered a verdict on Friday, convicting Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, for offenses related to the misuse of the Nigerian currency.
Presiding Judge Abimbola Awogboro reached this decision following a thorough examination of the case’s particulars.
During his statement to the court, Bobrisky expressed unawareness of the legislation concerning Naira abuse, highlighting his profession as a social media influencer with a substantial followers base exceeding five million.
Although the judge reiterated that ignorance of the law does not absolve one from accountability.
In a plea for leniency, Bobrisky expressed remorse and requested an opportunity to utilize his platform for educational purposes, promising to produce content aimed at enlightening his audience about responsible monetary behaviors, particularly regarding the practice of “spraying” money.
He assured the court of his commitment to not repeating such actions and expressed regret for his conduct.
Excel Magazine International recalls that Bobrisky faced charges brought forth by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, consisting of four counts related to Naira abuse, to which he pleaded guilty.
