Manhunt Underway for Gunman in Lewiston Mass Shooting
A widespread manhunt is currently underway for an unidentified gunman who carried out a mass shooting at a bar and bowling alley in Lewiston, Maine, on Wednesday evening.
The individual of interest in this case, Robert R. Card, a 40-year-old resident of Bowdoin, is being actively sought by authorities. Maine State Police have issued a warning, describing Card as “armed and dangerous.” Citizens are urged not to approach or make contact with him.
The precise number of victims is yet to be officially confirmed, but Maine Department of Public Safety Commissioner Michael Sauschuck stated on Wednesday that there were “multiple casualties,” though no specific figures were provided.
According to law enforcement sources, it is estimated that 15 to 20 people may have lost their lives in the shooting, with as many as 50 others potentially injured.
The incident involved mass shootings at both Schemengees Bar and Sparetime Recreation, which is a bowling alley.
Photographs released by law enforcement during the search for the suspect depict an individual wearing a hooded sweatshirt and carrying a black rifle with what appears to be a scope.
President Joe Biden and U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland are closely monitoring the situation. President Biden has assured Maine’s governor and members of Congress of the full support of the federal government.
A vehicle that had been sought in connection with the shootings was located in Lisbon, a town roughly 7 miles southeast of Lewiston. Residents in Lewiston, nearby Auburn, and Lisbon have been advised to shelter in place, keep their doors locked, and remain vigilant.
Maine, located in the northeastern part of the United States, is renowned for its rugged coastline, maritime heritage, and natural attractions, such as the granite and spruce islands found in Acadia National Park.
