The Kano State Government is sponsoring approximately 1001 postgraduate students for programs in India and Uganda, gathered Excel Magazine International on Friday.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Governor Abba Kabir launched the state foreign scholarship scheme with an initial group of 550 recipients in Kano.

The governor commended the foreign scholarship program initiated by the former governor, Sen. Rabi’u Kwankwaso, highlighting the benefits it has brought to the state.

He noted that individuals trained under the scheme by Kwankwaso now hold significant positions within the current administration, including Dr. Yusuf Ibrahm, the Commissioner for Higher Education; Prof. Aliyu Isa Aliyu, the Statistician General of the State; and Dr. Bashir Muzakkir, the Special Adviser on Innovation.

Kabir mentioned that Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso sponsored three batches of scholars for foreign studies in 16 countries, resulting in numerous professionals, Ph.D. holders, master’s degree holders, and experts in fields like medical sciences, engineering, natural sciences, aviation, and maritime.

He praised the practical impact of Kwankwaso’s administration, stating that it motivated his administration to continue this beneficial foreign scholarship policy.

Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso, in his speech, commended the state government for continuing this initiative and urged the beneficiaries to meet their expectations and contribute to their families and the nation.

One beneficiary, Mr. Babangida Salisu, who previously received a foreign scholarship from Kwankwaso to study Information Technology in Uganda, expressed his gratitude for being selected again to pursue a Master’s degree in Computer Science at Mewar University in India.

The first batch of 550 students received their scholarship offers and travel documents from Governor Kabir and were treated to a farewell dinner at the Government House.
