JUST IN: Former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim Joins APC
Former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim has officially joined the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), Excel Magazine International can report.
Anyim made this announcement at the Pa Oruta Ngele Township Abakaliki during the Grand Finale of the APC Local Government election campaign on Saturday.
He led a significant number of notable personalities from various political parties to the APC, including former State and National Assembly members, the former Governorship candidate of the Labour Party Edwin Nkwegu, Senator Obinna Ọgba, former national and state assembly candidates, and thousands of their supporters.
Prominent figures present to welcome them included the Party’s National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje; Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Governor Hope Uzodinma; Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State; Minister of Works, David Umahi; and the State Chairman of the party, Stanley Meghan, among other top party officials.
Speaking at the event, Minister of Works David Umahi praised Anyim for his support during the 2023 elections, noting that it was fitting for him to formally join the party.
He also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the support extended to him during his legal battles after joining the APC.
“President Tinubu called me to come and see him, and when I came, he personally drove me to meet a Senior Advocate of Nigeria who handled our case,” Umahi said.
Umahi acknowledged the challenges and criticisms he faced for joining the APC but expressed his satisfaction that the party is now widely accepted in the state and the southeast region.
He emphasized the President’s commitment to the development of the southeast, highlighting the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road project, which will pass through Ebonyi, and ongoing work on other major roads in the region.
He urged the two governors and other party leaders in the region to work diligently to bring every stakeholder into the party to ensure the region’s rightful place in national politics.
Governor Uzodinma noted that the recent Supreme Court ruling would strengthen democracy in the country.
He encouraged youths to avoid all forms of protests against President Tinubu’s government.
Anyim assured the National Chairman that Ebonyi State has always been united under one political family.
He highlighted the people’s decision to unify the entire state under one political family in recognition of Governor Francis Nwifuru’s performance and efforts to unite all groups in the state.
