INEC declares Soludo winner of Anambra governorship election

Former Central Bank Governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has been declared winner of the Anambra State governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Soludo won the polls with a wide margin of 112,229 votes, beating Valentine Ozigbo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who pulled 53, 807 votes and Andy Uba who had 43,285 votes. Ifeanyi Uba of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) came fourth with a total of 21,261 votes.

Making the announcement at the INEC office in Awka, Anambra state, the Returning Officer of the Anambra governorship election, Prof. Florence Obi, Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar said “That Charles Chukwuma Soludo of the APGA, having satisfied the requirements under the law is hereby declared the winner and is returning elected.”

The 61-year-old who was the governor of the Apex Bank between 2004 and 2009 was declared winner after the November 6th election was declared inconclusive by INEC, and after supplementary election was held in Ihiala Local government area on Tuesday.

He swept 19 of the 21 LGAs in the state, including Ihiala.

Soludo is expected to be sworn in by March 2022, after the expiration of the two termed tenure of the incumbent governor, Willie Obiano who is also of the All Progressives Grand Alliance.
