Independence Day: We Must Continue To Believe in Unity and Progress of Nigeria- Gov Uzodinma
The governor of Imo State Nigeria, Senator Hope Uzodinma has expressed that no event is yet to equal the Independence Day in Nigeria .
The State governor made this statement while delivering the Independence Day speech at the Heroes Square in Owerri the State Capital.
The governor who arrived at the event with members of the Executive Council and Service Chiefs appreciated everyone present; extending his gratitude to all Imo State Citizens.
He said the independence put Nigeria in its rightful place in the assembly of nations as a sovereign entity. “Naturally, much was expected from independence, among other rights. Nigerians look forward to freedom, equity and justice. They saw in the new nation the opportunity to reclaim their human dignity which the colonial masters had suppressed”, the governor said.
He further explained that the independence made Nigerians glory in their new status.
Governor Uzodinma pointed out that after 60 years; there are challenges that have continued to persist in the country. Areas of security push the people to question the existence of the country. He stated that the terrorist activities in the country continue to disturb the masses.
The governor promised the citizens that the government of President Muhammadu Buhari is doing everything possible to control insurgency and crime in Nigeria.
The Imo State Number one citizen reiterated that despite these challenges, the nation deserve to celebrate the efforts and sacrifices of the founding fathers.
He explained that his administration since taking over office has worked so hard to end corruption in the state especially in areas of embezzlement and misappropriation of funds.
Senator Uzodinma pleaded with everyone to continue to believe in the unity and togetherness of the nation.
The event came to an end with the cutting of the Independence Anniversary Cake.
