With the Government of His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma keen on the overall development of Imo girls who are the women, mothers and homemakers of the future in the state, the first lady, Barr. (Mrs) Chioma Uzodimma has launched empowerment programs.
According to a press release signed by the Imo state first lady, an empowered woman takes better charge of her world, takes her own decisions and less susceptible to vulnerability.
“Girls and women make up 50% of humanity. Needless to say, no society can be considered truly developed if it’s women are not active participants and contributors” the statement read in part.
The statement noted that in line with the plans of the state, it marked this year’s #DayoftheGirlChild with the flagoff of empowerment sessions, yesterday, 10th of November, at the Ahiajoku Convention Centre, Owerri.
Participants were taught self-reliance through the production of skincare products and soaps.
Speaking at the event, the First Lady urged the participants who were drawn from the 27 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the Imo State to make the best out of the opportunity inorder to be useful to themselves, their families and the society in general.
“In Imo State, the ability of our women and girls to be self-reliant is one of our priorities, because to a great extent, the peace and prosperity of our families and the society, by extention, is in their hands” she noted.
“As a State, we must continue to stand by our girls so as to raise powerful women who break new grounds and contribute to their family, society and country through rightful thinking, working, producing and contributing meaningfully to the society” she further said in the statement.
