Imo Hotel Owner in Gaol for Allegedly Torturing Man to Death
The Imo State Police Command has apprehended Mr. Ibe Obasi, 38, proprietor of Our Guest Hotel, situated in the Obowo Local Government Area, following allegations of his involvement in the death of Ebuka Udemba, a 25-year-old resident of Umuokpa in the same locality, Excel Magazine International can report.
According to a statement by the command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye, the incident occurred on Saturday and Mr. Obasi has since been taken into custody and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department.
Investigations indicate that the victim was reportedly subjected to torture and confined in the generator room of the guest house by Mr. Obasi and two others, subsequently resulting in his suffocation.
Excel Magazine International gathered that the motive behind the act was purportedly linked to the theft of a customer’s mobile phone.
Obasi is currently under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Owerri, where he has provided information to aid in the apprehension of all individuals involved in the incident.
Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, has, therefore, directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the SCID to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances leading to the victim’s death.
The directive aims to ensure the arrest and prosecution of all suspects implicated in the crime.
Expressing condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased, the Commissioner condemned the heinous act and urged residents, particularly those in Umulogho, to refrain from taking matters into their own hands.
Assuring the public of ongoing investigations, he emphasized the commitment of the Command to bring the perpetrators to justice.
