PRESS RELEASE
Imo Diaspora Outreach Berths
Pursuant to the policy of the state Government under his Excellency, Emeka Ihedioha, a body known as Imo Diaspora Outreach – a coalition of Diaspora who-is-who worldwide has berthed.
The newly elected governor Emeka Ihedioha had promised to rebuild the state as the agenda of administration.
The body also in line with its vision recently created 11 committees in alignment and reflection of ministries, departments and agencies of the state Government. The aim and philosophy of Imo Diaspora Outreach is to promote Imo state more and celebrate its values. With the Diaspora Outreach as interface, every Diasporan is being encouraged to channel whatever useful thing they are doing in the Diaspora homewards to enrich and augment the effort of the Government.
The Business Development, Entrepreneurship & Financial Services group under the able leadership of Ambassador Dr. Camillus Konkwo held an important meeting on 11th July 2019 with Hon Boniface Ihiasota, Dr. Frank Akujobi, Hon Jude Agugba, Sir Aham Nwosu and Amb.Dr. Camillus Konkwo as experts resident in Canada, the US, Europe, Asia and Nigeria in attendance.
During this meeting/interaction, the group defined its vision, objectives and mandate as follows:
“To identify Imo Diaspora entrepreneurs, develop their homebound business objectives, bond them with start-up partners and business management interface at home, mobilize venture capital and create soft landing and enabling environment in partnership with the Government “.
“This is done with the overall intention to promote entrepreneurship and create independent employment opportunities geared towards supporting the state Government in its effort to rebuild Imo state“.
In line with its International/Diaspora business mandate, the group has commenced the establishment of a qualitative Business Directory of all Imo state entrepreneurs.
The Imo Diaspora outreach will also function as one-stop-hub and help desk empowering all Imo Diaspora corporate entities. This will cut accross all other committees of Imo Diaspora Outreach.
Multinational media organization, EXCEL GLOBAL MEDIA GROUP led by its chief Executive Officer,Mr Boniface Ihiasota will also be responsible for media coverage, projection/branding and showcasing businesses through this initiative for global access and attention.
In the area of Entrepreneurship, Business Development, Entrepreneurship & Financial Services group offers deliverables including youth talent development and business incubation, entrepreneurial training and mentoring as part of tertiary education curriculum so graduates can learn what it takes to be an entrepreneur and not depend on Government after schooling. This will lead to more employment opportunities and reduce pressure on limited jobs available in Imo state. It will also develop the framework for a Cottage Start-Up Scheme for the govt to implement; modernize the famous apprenticeship system as a Social Enterprise Concept for incubating entrepreneurs and also create tech hubs in Imo state.
Also Financial services will be rendered with this new initiative.
While commenting on plans, Dr Camillus Konkwo noted that plans are in top gear to mobilize an Investment Scheme as a viable option for mobilizing venture capital if hedged with insurance and entrusted to wealth managers that offer good business opportunities, security, professional management and capital growth with the state Government providing institutional coverage as edging instrument.
The group also agreed to meet from time to time to bring out policies towards the development of Imo state through contributory efforts aimed at supporting the incumbent administration.
