Nigerian Senator Ike Ekweremadu, wife detained in Uk for Organ Trafficking

Former Nigerian Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu and his wife Beatrice have been arraigned and detained by a UK court for allegedly bringing a child to London with a view to harvesting his organ.

According to a statement released by the Metropolitan Police which reads, “A woman and a man were charged today with conspiring to arrange the travel of a child into the UK in order to harvest organs.

“The charges follow an investigation by the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime team.
“Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, 55 (10.9.66) of Nigeria is charged with conspiracy to arrange/facilitate the travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting.

“Ike Ekweremadu, 60 (12.05.62) of Nigeria is charged with conspiracy to arrange/facilitate the travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting.

“They have both been remanded in custody and will appear at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court later today.

“A child has been safeguarded and we are working closely with partners on continued support. As criminal proceedings are now underway we will not be providing further details.”

Reports have it that Ekweremadu’s daughter has been battling kidney disease and needed a kidney transplant. A donor, a 15-year-old boy was arranged and sent to the United Kingdom with an illegally obtained passport with a promise to give him a “better life”

However, the purported donor whose kidney did not match that of Ekweremadu’s child was scheduled to return to Nigeria. The donor refused to return to Nigeria and instead reported to the Met police to seek asylum.

The Senator and his wife were arrested and arraigned on Thursday and have been remanded in police custody till July 7 without the option of bail.
