Ibadan protest: Soldiers Killed One, Others Injured
One motorcyclist has been reportedly shot dead, while others got injured by the Nigerian Army at a protest in Ibadan.
The incident happened at Apata, one of the areas in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State, during a protest against the hike and scarcity of fuel and banks failure to release the new Naira note.
An eyewitness who gave account of the incident illustrated, that the incident occurred early Saturday as the Nigerian Army who came on the scene to reduce the tension in the state, opened fire on protesters.
“We saw soldiers’ vehicles pass through Brent, and all we heard were gunshots.
“Everyone ran for their lives; some lay on the floor to prevent stray bullets,” the eyewitness was quoted to have said.
He added that one female during the shootout got serious injury but currently receiving treatment at the Lafia Hospital in the NNPC area. Tribune reported.
Efforts to confirm the incident front the state command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Adewale Osifeso, has proven futile as of the time of reporting.
