How Soldiers Invaded Our Community, Shot Sporadically, Leaving Many Casualties – Imo Residents

 

Many residents of Umuocha in Imo state have spoken to EXCEL BREAKING NEWS on the last night attack on their community.

According to the residents, soldiers came in their numbers and vans into the community after the death of their colleague at Nwaorieubi , Mbaitolu, Imo state .

The residents narrated how they had to scamper for safety and abandon their homes via different routes when the shooting started.

“I have had to abandon my house since yesterday night when the Army came and destroyed many properties, shot live bullets and it took grace for me to be alive today” the resident who pleaded anonymity told this magazine .

Another resident confirmed that markets have been abandoned while many homes are currently abandoned due to the incident

“As you can see I am not in my house, I cannot even go back there, the shootings were too much, I wasn’t sure I would escape alive but I could not just stay in the house and risked being killed by a stray bullet, I ran through a nearby route and currently I am not sure I would go back soon” the resident lamented.

Another source revealed that unspecified casualty was recorded even as the community remains inaccessible and blocked

“The community has remained inaccessible and entry/exit points have been blocked with the Nigerian Army van while there are casualties but we cannot ascertain it yet/. No one has access to seeing the extent of the damage yet but it is horrible” our reporter was told.

Two police stations were set ablaze in Imo state yesterday with soldiers also attacked by hoodlums.
The Imo state government is yet to issue any official press statement or react to this development as at the time of this report.
