How gunmen killed Chike Akunyili, husband of late Dora Akunyili

Images showing the gruesomely murdered Dr. Chike Akunyili, husband of the late boss of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Dora Akunyili, by unknown gunmen have surface online.

Reports on Wednesday confirmed that Mr Akunyili had been shot dead at Nkpor in the Idemili North Local government area of Anambra State, while he was returning to Enugu from an event in his late wife’s honour.

The images purportedly showed the elderly man in a pool of his own blood, apparently struggling to breathe as onlookers made videos of him battling between life and death.

Chike’s brother, Cyril in a now-deleted Facebook post on Wednesday said, “IPOB killed my senior brother. Why? Husband of Prof. Dora Akunyili is dead. IPOB why on a Tuesday?”

The leadership of the seperatist group, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has since distanced itself from the allegation, stressing that the murder was a pure case of political assassination.

The group alleged that those behind the killing are contesting for the upcoming governorship election in Anambra state.

Chike was survived by the six children he had with his late wife.
