Former Nigerian Super Eagles assistant coach, Ben Duamlong, aged 70, has achieved remarkable academic success by obtaining a first-class degree in Painting from the University of Jos.
Out of the total of 20,532 students who graduated from the university in 2023, Duamlong’s name was included among the distinguished list of 112 students who attained first-class honors.
Following his retirement as a football coach of the national team in 2014, the septuagenarian pursued a degree in recognition of his profound passion for art.
When questioned about his decision to return to education at such an advanced age, Duamlong expressed, “What prompted me to go back to the university at this age is because of my passion for art. All my life, I always draw, but never painted.
“So, after retiring in 2014, as a footballer, I stayed home doing nothing. That is why I decided to go back to school.”
Gwandai, Duamlong’s son, expressed his joy and pride in his father’s remarkable academic achievement.
Duamlong served as the assistant coach for the Super Eagles during the Korea/Japan 2022 World Cup, further highlighting his extensive experience and contributions to the world of football.
