Nigerian singer and politician, Bankole Wellington, popularly known as Banky W, has spoken about his defeat in the Lagos State Eti-Osa Federal Constituency election.
The candidate of the Labour Party, Attah Thaddeus, emerged as the winner of the election with 24,075 votes, while Banky W got 18,666 votes and Babajide Obanikoro of the All Progressives Congress, APC, received 16, 901 votes.
In a post on his Instagram page on Monday, Banky W shared a message of encouragement for those who have experienced disappointment or loss, saying that faith in God does not shield one from pain but helps in the healing process.
Speaking during a church service, Banky W said that the plan was to hold a thanksgiving service after the election to celebrate and give thanks to God before traveling to Abuja to look for an apartment and office space.
“For anyone who’s ever suffered through a loss, a disappointment or a situation where things just didn’t work out the way you hoped.. ‘Faith after a fall’ is for you, for me.
“This was to be our Thanksgiving service. After the election is over and we come and we are celebrating, thanking God. And I was going to give a short charge to say see what the Lord has done.
“And then, we use that to build up your faith and give God some praise. Then we finish the service and I go to Abuja to start looking for apartment and office space.
“Your faith in God does not stop you from hurting, but it helps you heal, and it helps you deal,” he added.
Banky W’s political aspirations have been widely discussed in recent years, with the musician running for office under the Modern Democratic Party (MDP) in the 2019 general elections.
Despite not winning, Banky W remains committed to his political goals and has continued to encourage young Nigerians to participate in politics.
