Himalayan crisis: India signs Agreement with U.S as Tensions with China Increase

Amidst concerns over increased Chinese military activity in the Asian region, the United States and India have re-ignited their defensive and security relations, as the U.S government continues to rally allies in the region.

During a press conference on Tuesday in New Delhi, the Indian capital, the U.S Secretary of Defence Mark Esper and his Indian counterpart Rajnath Singh announced the signing of the Basic Exchange and Cooperation Agreement (BECA), enabling further defence cooperation between the two countries and greater information sharing.

‘’The defence ties between our two nations remains a key pillar of our overall bi-lateral relationship. Based on our shared values and common interests, we stand shoulder to shoulder in support of a free and open indo-pacific for all, particularly in the light of increasing aggression and destabilizing activities by China’’ Esper said.
