Gov Makinde Reacts to Ibadan Explosion
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has revealed that preliminary investigations indicate the explosion in Bodija, Ibadan on Tuesday night was triggered by explosive devices stored by illegal miners.
This was confirmed in a statement on Wednesday by the governor.
Excel Magazine International reports that the incident resulted in two fatalities and left 77 others injured as at press time.
While addressing the press, Governor Makinde stated, “We have initiated comprehensive search and rescue operations, deploying first responders, earth-moving equipment, ambulances, and security personnel to the scene.”
He affirmed the commitment to ongoing efforts throughout the night to address the aftermath of the blast.
Excel Magazine International confirms medical assistance is being provided to the injured victims, with the governor expressing condolences for the lives lost and directing that the government cover the medical bills of all victims.
Additionally, temporary accommodation will be provided to those whose homes were affected, and support will be extended for rebuilding efforts.
Emphasizing the seriousness of the situation, Governor Makinde asserted, “Preliminary investigations by security agencies reveal that illegal miners, occupying a house in Bodija, stored explosive devices that caused the blast. Those found culpable will be brought to book.”
Governor Makinde urged residents to call emergency services at 615 for assistance and appealed for calm, advising people to stay clear of the incident site to facilitate smooth rescue operations without interference.
The governor reassured the public of the government’s commitment to ensuring justice and providing necessary support during this challenging time.
