The Buckingham palace has released new information about the upcoming celebrations for the coronation of King Charles III, which will take place from May 6-8.

The coronation ceremony will be held at Westminster Abbey on the morning of May 6, led by the archbishop of Canterbury.

Charles and Camilla will then return to Buckingham Palace in a ceremonial procession, where they will be joined by other members of the royal family on the balcony.

On May 7, a concert featuring international music stars will be held at Windsor Castle and will be broadcast live on the BBC. The public will have the opportunity to win free tickets to the concert through a national ballot.

Additionally, the palace has announced that there will be a day of volunteering as part of the coronation celebrations.

The coronation concert will feature a diverse range of performances, including a world-class orchestra playing popular songs and appearances from dancers, entertainers, and spoken word performers.

The event will also include the Coronation Choir, a group comprising of community choirs and amateur singers from various backgrounds, such as refugee choirs and LGBTQ+ singing groups.

A documentary about the formation of the Coronation Choir will also be shown. The choir will also perform alongside the Virtual Choir, made up of singers from across the Commonwealth.

The highlight of the concert, titled “lighting up the nation,” will see landmarks across the UK illuminated with projections, lasers, drone displays, and illuminations, bringing the country together in celebration. Volunteers from the king and queen consort’s charity affiliations will also be in attendance.

The coronation weekend will also include a “coronation big lunch” organized by the Big Lunch team at the Eden Project, which the queen consort has been a patron of since 2013.

Thousands of events are expected to take place in communities across the UK.

Additionally, on Monday, a bank holiday, has been designated as “the big help out” day, organized by The Together Coalition and various partners such as The Scouts and faith groups, to encourage people to volunteer and support their local communities. The goal is to create a lasting volunteering legacy from the coronation weekend.

The United Kingdom Culture Secretary, Michelle Donelan, said the coronation is a significant moment in history and the events will bring people together to celebrate the diversity and unity of the UK and Commonwealth.

Although the coronation will be diplomatically sensitive and may pose challenges for the royal family, particularly in light of Prince Harry’s recent memoir.
