No fewer than 23 persons have been confirmed dead in a tanker explosion on Wednesday morning in Lokoja, Kogi State Nigeria. More than five vehicles were burnt and some of the victims include students of Kogi State Polytechnic.

Confirming the incident, the Kogi State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC) said at least 23 bodies were pulled out from the burnt cars.
This ugly incident happened after a truck loaded with Premium Motor Spirit lost hold of its brake and dashed straight into five other vehicles.

The governor of Kogi State expressed his grief and sent his condolence to the families of those affected. He pleaded with the students of Kogi State Polytechnic to stay calm, saying that he shared in their grief.
