Former Aviation Minister Hadi Sirika Arrested in N8 Billion Fraud Probe
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained Hadi Sirika, the former Minister of Aviation, in connection with an N8.07 billion money laundering investigation.
Sirika was taken into custody as he arrived at the EFCC’s Federal Capital Territory Command at approximately 1:00 pm on Tuesday.
Excel Magazine International reports that Sirika is being questioned over allegations that he awarded fraudulent contracts to Engirios Nigeria Limited, a company reportedly owned by his younger brother, Abubakar Sirika.
According to EFCC sources, these contracts were part of a broader investigation into potential conspiracy, abuse of office, diversion of public funds, and contract inflation during Sirika’s tenure.
The investigation, as reported by The PUNCH in February, focuses on four specific aviation contracts awarded to Engirios Nigeria Limited. These contracts, valued at a total of N8.07 billion, include the construction of a Terminal Building and a Fire Truck Maintenance and Refurbishment Center at Katsina Airport, as well as the procurement and installation of essential infrastructure at Aviation House in Abuja and the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, Zaria.
EFCC sources allege that no visible work has been completed for these contracts, despite substantial payments made.
Abubakar Sirika, who was arrested earlier in February, is said to be cooperating with the EFCC.
He has reportedly provided information about several transactions where funds were diverted from Engirios Nigeria Limited to various other entities.
